What does your tag line mean? “Composting 7,000 years of empire” embodies the strip’s premise: that human civilization took a wrong turn millennia ago and now must change course in a single generation. The strip mainly explores how this change might occur (and yes, compost is a big part of it). To understand the what and why better, pick up a copy of The Chalice and the Blade: Our History, Our Future by Riane Eisler. Read it all the way though for the full effect…or just keep reading Permyz.

What is permaculture? Short for permenent agriculture or permanent culture, it refers to a design system that provides for all human needs regeneratively, the way forests have for all their inhabitants for millions of years. For a quick intro, I recommend Permaculture in a Nutshell by Patrick Whitefield. For more depth, try Introduction to Permaculture by Bill Mollison and Permaculture: Principles and Pathways Beyond Sustainability by David Holmgren.
